Thousands Turn Up for TFC’s OK Go
SANTA CLARA, CA, September 13, 2010 – Nearly 10,000 people came to California’s Great America to join in The Filipino Channel’s summer festival event, One Kapamilya Go. As early as 10 in the morning of Sunday, Pinoys helped themselves to the theme park’s thrilling rides, as well as food booths and souvenir shops at the TFC pavilion.
A big portion of the theme park was practically transformed into a Filipino town as hundreds of loyal TFC viewers, braved the heat and reserved their seats early for the day’s main events.
One kapamilya viewer said she went to OK Go to watch “Showtime” and see her kababayan, Jovit Baldovino, a featured artist in the show. Another said, “I came here to see my favorite stars at saka name-miss ko ang Pilipinas kasi.”
About 200 fans were fortunate to be chosen for a meet-and-greet event with their idols, Kim Chui and Gerald Anderson. A teenaged fan from said, “I saw them, I walked in and I was shaking. I wouldn’t be here right now if it wasn’t for them.”
The Filipino Channel brought the popular noontime show “Showtime” to the US for the first time. The crowd went wild when the show began.
The Filipino-American dance crew Jabbawockeez wowed the audience with their dance moves.
ABS-CBN discoveries Bugoy Drilon and Jovit Baldovino did a special medley together. The popular love team nicknamed “Kimerald” sent fans screaming with their duet.
But the highlight of the show was the competition among 4 dance groups from California. The teams were diverse and talented. Each used a special theme and the dancers showed passion and precision in their every move.
In the end, the judges called it a tie. Team Loopkicks and Funk Beyond Control each won 2-thousand dollars.
Asked what they would do with their winnings, Utahna Baxter of Team Loopkicks said “We’re going to invest it in uniforms, hopefully made for more dance competitions.” Ryan Barbonio of Funk beyond Control said, “It’s our first time and we’re really excited that we got to perform here to compete.” Justin Runes added, “It feels great! I can’t believe we just competed and won! “
After the successful event, Showtime’s cast and organizers say they look forward to bringing the show to other parts of the world.
